ADVANCED ENGLISH COURSES

 

  • C1 Reading & Writing course (70 hours) - 1st and 2nd semester

22 hours in the virtual classroom and 10 lessons online on the CLA platform – development of two skills: reading comprehension and writing

Prerequisite: level B2

For all those interested in reaching a high level,  also in anticipation of enrolment in the following semestre in intensive CAE course in order to prepare for the C1 Advanced Cambridge exam.

A badge will be awarded after passing the final C1 Reading & Writing exam.

 

  • C1 course (90 hours)2nd semester

44 hours in virtual classroom (two 2-hour lessons per week) + online work on the CLA platform – development of four skills: Reading, Writing, Listening, Speaking & Presentation skills.

Prerequisite: level B2

For students enrolled in the masters course in European Studies. Also open to students enrolled in other degree courses, when places are available.

For all those interested in reaching a high level,  also in anticipation of enrolment in the following semestre in intensive CAE course to prepare for the C1 Advanced Cambridge exam.

A badge will be awarded after passing the final C1 exam .

 

For students who wish to obtain a Cambridge International English certificate (B2 First, C1 Advanced, C2 Proficiency) – enrollment in the exam confirmed after payment of the exam fees (see info below)

 

  • Biannual FCE course (70 hours) which prepares for the Cambridge B2 First exam :

60 hours of classroom instruction + 10 hours of work online on course blog – 2nd semester

Prerequiste: pass score on B2 exam (“idoneità”) ≥ 75%

If you have not passed the B2 English exam with this score you can contact the teacher by email to express your interest and request enrolment in the course.

 

  • Biannual C1 Advanced course (70 hours) which prepares for Cambridge C1 Advanced exam – 1st semester only

Two 2-hour lessons of classroom instruction per week with additional work online and written homework assigned every two weeks. Mock test in the classroom one month before the exam.

 

Prerequisite: level C1 preparation (“Idoneità C1”/ “Idoneità C1 Reading & Writing”) or a minimum score of 170 in the B2 First exam or 6.0 in the IELTS exam.

  • Annual C1/C2 course at San Niccolò for students enrolled in the second year of  LM39 and LM81degree courses

Preparation for Cambridge C1 Advanced and C2 Proficiency exams

The course is open to all, but precedence is given to those students enrolled in the above-mentioned degree courses.

Prerequisite: B2 level

 

 

  • Intensive online course to prepare for the IELTS (International English Language Testing System) exam – 1st and 2nd semester:

Two lessons per week in the virtual classroom for a total of 30 hours.

Prerequisite: B2 level

For information regarding the IELTS exam (dates, places, exam fees) access the British Council website.

 

Enrolment for fall semester courses to be held in SIENA will be open online from September 23rd to October 6th from from this link

Lessons will begin on October 7th.

Information regarding lesson times, teachers and textbooks will be published around mid-September on the CLA website

 

CAMBRIDGE EXAMS

 

The Foreign Languages Center is an authorized center for Cambridge exams: B2 First, C1 Advanced and C2 Proficiency. All exams are paper-based.

You should only enrol for the exam if you are well prepared. Please see a list of recommended textbooks and websites above.

The 2024/2025 exam calendar will be published in September. The next exams sessions will be held in March 2025.

 

ENROLMENT

Complete the enrolment form (to be published on this page) and send it by email to the Foreign Languages Center at: infocla@unisi.it.

Once you have sent the form, the Foreign Languages Center CLA will send you an email with the instructions for payment of exam fees through PagoPA.

Enrolment will be confirmed once payment has been made. Confirmation of payment will be made by PagoPA; it is not necessary to send a copy of payment to the CLA.

REGULATIONS

Ban on electronic devices from 2016

From January 2016 candidates will not be permitted to take their mobile phones or any other electronic devices into the exam room or the speaking test. Electronic devices include iPods, iPads, e-readers, smart watches, wrist watches and any other device on which notes could be accessed, data received or transmitted during an exam session.

 

Any candidates found with mobile phones or other electronic devices in their possession in an exam room will be disqualified.

 

Students should present a valid ID (Identity card, diver’s liscense, passport) at the exam. University badges will not be accepted.
