Entry Requirements for Degree Programmes in which English is the Medium of Instruction

I would like to enrol in a Bachelor’s/Master’s degree taught in English that requires B2 English proficiency as a language prerequisite. What should I do?

International and EU students applying to Bachelor's or Master’s programmes taught in English must follow the specific instructions provided by each course (and by the Admission Office as well, as far as international students are concerned). You can also read this page for further information.

Preparation Courses for Advanced Language Proficiency Tests (Idoneità)

I am already attending an English-taught Degree Programme. Now I have to/would like to enrol in an advanced English course (C1 Level) to prepare for the internal C1 proficiency test (C1 Idoneità).

We have an extensive educational offer of advanced English courses. To have more information about them and about the enrolment process, please read this page. According to the degree programme in which you are enrolled, a different C1 proficiency test (C1 Idoneità) may be required. In order to understand which particular advanced English course you must attend, please read the specific instructions provided by your degree course.

Cambridge Certifications

I would like to obtain a B2/C1/C2 Cambridge certification during my studies. Is it possible?

The CLA is an authorised Cambridge exam centre. Certification exam sessions are usually held in March and June. Exams are subject to a fee. Registration is done by the CLA (see this website page for fees and enrolment procedures).

If I pass a Cambridge exam, can it be validated for my university career?

Yes, if you obtain a certification during your studies, it can be validated according to your study plan and the corresponding credits will be recorded in your Transcript of Records.

I have already passed the required proficiency test (Idoneità) for my study plan. Can I still take a Cambridge exam?

Yes, access to Cambridge exams is open, voluntary, and subject to a fee.

Can I take courses to prepare for international Cambridge exams?

Yes, preparation courses are available for FCE (B2), CAE (C1) and CPE (C2). Please consult the “Cambridge Exams” page.

English Language Exams with a Mark Out of 30

I am enrolled in a degree programme that includes language exams graded out of 30 (unlike proficiency tests/idoneità, which are pass/fail). Can I attend CLA courses?

No. You must follow the learning path specified by your department, under the supervision of the course lecturer, who will assign the final grade. The lecturer will also determine whether passing their exam allows you to validate any related proficiency test (idoneità) listed in your study plan.
